World’s most expensive potato: why it’s highly priced
The world’s most expensive potato is considered to be the Le Bonnotte, a variety from France. It’s price usually ranges from Rs 50,000 to 90,000 per kg and goes upto Rs 1 lakh/kg. It is grown exclusively on the Île de Noirmoutier in France and is highly prized for its unique, delicate flavour. These potatoes are cultivated on sandy soil fertilised with seaweed and algae. Interestingly, despite its high price, people queue up to buy these potatoes. This is because the annual global production is only 100 tons, with its season lasting only about 10 days a year. Le Bonnotte potatoes are available for sale only in May and June each year.
