World’s 10 most drought-hit nations revealed; all Muslim-majority, leading one may surprise you

Among the world’s ten most drought-hit nations, Egypt tops the list, where the average rainfall is extremely low.

Close to the Arabian Peninsula and the Sahara Desert, the majority of Muslim nations fall under the category of regions with very little rainfall. This is the reason why the subtropical region experiences extremely high temperatures throughout the year. These nations also witness long spells of summer without rain. During the rainy season, they receive only brief and limited rainfall.

Among these nations, Egypt, Libya, and Saudi Arabia are notable. If they do receive abundant rainfall, a flood-like situation often occurs in Saudi Arabia because the monsoon stream passes through the ghats, bringing heavy rainfall. The country experiences sudden and intense showers. Saudi Arabia and Jordan often face such conditions.

Among the world’s ten most drought-hit nations, Egypt tops the list, where the average rainfall is extremely low. The country records only 18 mm of average rainfall, making it the most drought-affected nation. However, Chile’s Atacama Desert is considered the driest place on Earth, as some parts of it have not received rain for the last 100 years.

According to a World Atlas report, Libya ranks second on the list, with an average annual rainfall of 56 mm.
