Earlier in August, Prime Minister Modi had a phone conversation with Zelenskyy, in which he reiterated that India will continue to make every effort for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. During the conversation, President Zelenskyy appealed to India to support the ongoing peace efforts to end the war.

Prime Minister Modi wrote on X about this conversation and mentioned, “It was nice to interact with President Zelenskyy and get to know his views on recent events. I told him that India is in favor of an early and peaceful resolution of the conflict and is committed to playing its role in this direction. At the same time, India is keen to further strengthen its relations with Ukraine.”

Zelenskyy also wrote, “I had a long and productive conversation with Prime Minister @narendramodi. We discussed in detail all key topics, especially bilateral cooperation and the broader diplomatic landscape. I thank him for his kind words for our citizens. I briefed him on the situation of Russian attacks, in particular the attack on the bus station in Zaporizhia, where dozens of people were injured. This attack was a deliberate targeting of a civilian site. At a time when there are possibilities of peace, Russia continues its policy of aggression and occupation instead of ceasefire.”
