Israel-Iran Conflict: The Israel Defense Forces have launched ‘precision strikes’ against Iranian military targets on early Saturday morning. This was following the Iran’s massive ballistic missile attack on Israel on October 1, which involved nearly 200 missiles. However, Iran’s strikes were largely intercepted by the Israel’s air defences.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) issued an official statement confirming the execution of targeted military operations. “In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel, the IDF is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran,” said IDF.
No immediate details on damage or casualties within the Iran were available following the Israeli strikes. The Israeli strikes come at a time, as the Middle East teeters on the brink of all-out regional war. This escalating tension is in the aftermath of the initial 2023 attack on Israel by Hamas, a militant group. Following Hamas’s attack, Israel responded with a ground operation in the Gaza Strip. This was followed by an invasion of Lebanon, specifically targeting militants backed by Tehran.
Israel-Iran Conflict – Why Did Israel Targeted Iran?
Israel’s strike on Iranian military targets today was conducted in retaliation for the ballistic missile attacks Iran launched against Israel earlier this month. Israel had pledged to take revenge on Iran following the airstrikes. Following the airstrike, Tehran made direct involvement in the ongoing Hamas-Israel conflict.
The recent attack on Iran comes as no surprise, given Israel’s repeated warnings of a retaliatory strike. Notably, The Iran-Israel conflict has its roots in the 1979 Iranian Revolution, which established a stringent Islamic regime opposed to US influence and interests, creating a decades-long rift between the two nations.
Explosions of Israel’s attack echoed through Tehran, Iran’s capital city, with Iranian state media confirming the explosions, attributing some to the city’s air defence systems. At least seven explosions were heard following Israeli rocket strikes on Saturday, said media reports quoting a Tehran resident.
