The Consulate General of India in Vancouver on Thursday confirmed the demise of an Indian student studying at the University of Calgary in Canada. The deceased student has been identified as Tanya Tyagi from Delhi. The Consulate expressed grief in an X post, stating they are saddened by the sudden demise of Tanya. They have promised to provide all necessary assistance to the bereaved family. The cause of her death has not yet been specified.

The statement from Consulate General of India in Vancouver, read as: “We are saddened by the sudden demise of Ms. Tanya Tyagi, an Indian student at University of Calgary.  The Consulate is in touch with the authorities and will provide all required assistance to the bereaved family. Our heartfelt condolences & prayers are with his family & friends of the deceased.”

Here’s What We Know So Far

While more details are awaited on the matter, an X post by the user named as Ishu Tyagi, appealed for help from Prime Minister’s Office. The unverified post stated that Tanya had died on June 17, due to a heart attack.

“Tanya Tyagi, a student from Northeast Delhi residing at 559/11D, Lane No 12, Vijay Park, had gone to Canada for studies. She died on June 17, 2025, due to a heart attack. The student’s family has appealed to PM Modi for help in bringing her body back. @PMOIndia,” read the post by Tyagi.

Who Was Tanya Tyagi?

Tanya Tyagi, an Indian student was studying in University of Alberta. According to her LinkedIn profile, she was pursuing Masters in Food Safety and Quality. She had earned a BTech degree from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology. Tanya had worked as Retail Sales Manager in Metro Mart Store for 1 year 8 months. She was Quality Assurance Intern at Zippy Edible Products Pvt. Ltd.

Earlier on April 29, Vanshika Saini, a 21-year-old student from Derabassi, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Ottawa, Canada. According to reports, on April 18, she had finished her final exams and got a part-time job. However, things took a tragic turn when she left home for her workplace on April 22 and did not return. A search operation was launched, and the authorities discovered her body on a beach two days later near Ottawa.
