The Mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Galán, confirmed that Uribe was receiving emergency medical attention following the attack. The Colombian government, in a post on X, condoled the death of Uribe, stating, “The Presidency of the Republic deeply regrets the passing of Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay. We express our most sincere condolences and all our solidarity to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Who Was Miguel Uribe?

39-year-old Miguel Uribe Turbay, a Colombian politician, has been serving as a member of the Senate since 2022. He is the son of Journalist Diana Turbay and the grandson of Julio Cesar Turbay Ayala.

Teenager Arrested Within Hours Of The Attack

A 15-year-old suspect was arrested within hours of the attack. However, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. A total of six people have been booked, including two men who allegedly met in Medellín to plan the assassination.

President Gustavo Petro: ‘Investigation Must Be Deepened’

Following Uribe’s death, President Gustavo Petro said, “The investigation must be deepened. And it will be the competent authorities, assisted by international experts, who will make their pronouncement in due time.” In a post on X, he wrote, “Miguel’s death hurts us as if he were one of our own. It is a defeat. Every time a Colombian is murdered, it is a defeat for Colombia and for Life.”

According to a statement by the hospital where Uribe was receiving medical care, the senator sustained bleeding in his central nervous system and was scheduled to undergo surgery.
