Agustin Escobar, Global CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, was among six people killed in a helicopter crash on Thursday. He, along with his wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children – aged 4, 5, and 11 died when their chopper crashed into the Hudson River. Escobar was reportedly on a sightseeing trip in New York City. Escobar visited India two weeks ago and called it an incredible experience. He called it an inspiring week connecting with talented teams across Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai.
Escobar had over 25 years of international experience in the energy, infrastructure and transportation sectors. He led businesses and teams in United States, South America, Spain and Germany. Escobar was passionate about innovation and digitalization with sustainability at the core and developing high teams to positively transform people and organisations.
Throughout his career, he held several top positions. Escobar served as Head of Energy Automation Business Unit in Spain, President and CEO Seimens Spain, CEO Seimens Mobility Southwest Europe region. He also served as Vice president of German Chamber of Commerce for Spain.
He studied Business Administration at IE Business School, MBA from Universidad de Alcala and Industrial Engineering (electrical) from Universidad Pontificia Comillas.
Escobar On His Visit To India
Escobar visited India two weeks ago and called it an incredible experience. He shared about his journey on LinkedIn. Escobar wrote, “My journey across the @Siemens Mobility Rail Infrastructure Universe continues with an incredible visit to India! What an inspiring week connecting with our talented teams across Bangalore, Pune, and Mumbai. From R&D labs to manufacturing facilities, I witnessed innovation in action at every stop.”

A Look At His Career
He joined Siemens in 1998 as Head of Sales and Project Management for Power Automation Systems in Spain and remained with the company for more than 27 years. He also received multiple Seimens Country awards. Escobar managed rail systems, mobility, smart grids, developed strategic planning of the Smart grid division. He also contributed to the development of electric vehicle infrastructure in Southwest Europe.
In 2010, he shifted to New York City and led international business development across North America. He worked in Bogota, Colombia, where he managed over 1,300 employees and oversaw operations at three manufacturing facilities. Under Escobar’s leadership, the unit was recognised in 2016 as Siemens’ top-performing business globally.
He returned to Spain in 2018 and served as CEO of Siemens Rail Automation SAU and Siemens Mobility SLU. He led rail projects with a workforce exceeding 1,000.
From 2019 to 2024, he headed Siemens Mobility for the Southwest Europe Region. He covered Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece and parts of Africa and managed a team of over 3,000 people.
