Who Is Usha Vance? Know All About US Vice President-Elect JD Vance’s Indian-Origin Wife

Former US President Donald Trump declared victory on Tuesday in the 2024 presidential election. While addressing the energetic crowd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, Trump termed his election win ‘an unprecedented and powerful mandate from the American people.’ He also congratulated his running mate, JD Vance, and his wife, Usha Vance for the outstanding work they did during the campaign.

In his speech, Trump declared, “I can now say, Vice President-elect of the United States, JD Vance, and his remarkable and beautiful wife, Usha Vance.”

Who is Usha Vance?

Usha Chilukuri Vance is the daughter of Indian immigrants, who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. A Yale History graduate, Usha earned a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge. She has also clerked for both Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh before his appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.

According to reports, her grandfather and father were professors at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and India’s premier engineering college.when she was at Yale and Cambridge.

Usha has a younger sister, a mechanical engineer in San Diego by profession, and an aunt who is a medical professional in Chennai, India.

Besides, she is the wife of 40-year-old Ohio Senator JD Vance – to be Vice-President of the United States and now the first Hindu second lady. Her career in the legal field has seen her become a respected figure, though she largely avoided the eye of the public during her career.

Usha And JD Vance’s Relationship

JD Vance and Usha met at Yale Law School for legal studies. They began their relationship while at Yale and married each other in the year 2014. The couple are now parents to three children – Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.

According to ‘The New York Times’, Usha’s resume is a little conspicuous. In 2021, her husband gave a speech titled “The Universities are the Enemy”. He rarely skipped a chance to bash the establishments when he campaigned for Senate (2022), reports added.

His victory marks a historic moment, as Mrs. Usha Vance, who has roots in Andhra Pradesh, will become the first woman of Telugu heritage to serve as the Second Lady of the US. This is a moment of pride for the Telugu community around the world. I look forward to the opportunity to invite them to visit Andhra Pradesh.”
