US President-elect Donald Trump on Monday picked Florida Representative Mike Waltz as his national security advisor, reports stated. Waltz is a retired Army Colonel who served as Green Beret and colonel in the National Guard. He is also the head of India Caucus.
About Mike Waltz
Born on 31 January 1974 in Boynton Beach, Florida, Mike Waltz is an American Politician and war veteran. He is a member of Republican Party and was first elected in 2018. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International studies from the Virginia Military Institute. Waltz was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He has served over 26 years in the Army.
After commissioning as an Army lieutenant, he was selected to be a Green Beret and served as a Special Forces officer with multiple tours in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa. Waltz was decorated with four Bronze Stars, including two for valor for his actions in combat.
Critic Of China
Waltz has been an outspoken critic of China’s activities in the Asia-Pacific region. He has consistently voiced concerns about the need for the United States to be prepared for a potential conflict in the region. Waltz, a former Army Green Beret advocates for strong defense strategies. As per media reports, he will be responsible for briefing Trump on key national security issues and coordinating with different agencies.
He is known for praising Trump’s policies. Earlier, while slamming the Biden administration for a disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, Waltz had publicly praised Trump’s foreign policy views. “Disruptors are often not nice … frankly our national security establishment and certainly a lot of people that are dug into bad old habits in the Pentagon need that disruption,” Waltz said during an event earlier this year. Waltz has a long history in Washington’s political circles.
Trump nominated Republican representative Elise Stefanik to serve as the next US Ambassador to the United Nations on Monday, as reported by CNN.
Trump’s return to the White House marks only the second time in US history that a president has served two non-consecutive terms.
