US President-elect Donald Trump is expected to name Senator Marco Rubio to be his Secretary of State, as reported by The New York Times and other US news outlets. He is expected to pick Marco over his fellow ally Vivek Ramaswamy for the position of Secretary of State.
Vivek Ramaswamy, is an Indian-American entrepreneur who initially challenged Donald Trump in the presidential race. When asked about Ramaswamy’s role in Trump’s administration he said to ABC that, “There’s a couple great options on the table”.
After his win over the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, Donald Trump to fill out his foreign policy and national security team ahead of his formal inauguration, which be held in January 2025.
US President-elect Donald Trump had considered Rubio as his running mate this year. CNN reported that, Trump has his eyes on Rubio after initially favoring former acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell for the position.
In an interview to CNN, Rubio said, “We’re entering into an era of pragmatic foreign policy in which the world is rapidly changing”.
“Adversaries are uniting — North Korea, Iran, China, Russia are increasingly coordinating — it’s going to require us to be very pragmatic and wise and how we invest overseas and what we do,” he said.
As reported by CNN, Trump nominated Republican representative Elise Stefanik to serve as The next US Ambassador to UN.
CNN reported that, Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, that “I am pleased to announce that the former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (“The Border Czar”), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security”.
Who Is Marco Rubio?
Rubio was the key campaigner for Trump in US presidential election race. He has served in the Senate since 2010. He is currently serving as the vice chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. As said by US Daily on Monday, Rubio, 53, who is a Republican Senator from Florida has been tapped for the position of Secretary of State.
Rubio is having degree in political science from University of Florida. He got Elected to US Senate as a senator for Florida in the year 2010. Before this he served as speaker in State house for more than a decade. He bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 fell short.
