Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi tore into Pakistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday, accusing Islamabad of “bombing their own people” while using the platform to launch attacks on New Delhi. He was speaking during Agenda Item 4 at the UN Human Rights Council session. The diplomat said that Pakistan’s comments about India were baseless and meant to provoke. He also rejected Pakistan’s statements as false and provocative. Who is Kshitij Tyagi, the 2012-Batch Indian Foreign Service Officer?
Khsitij’s swipe at Pakistan came a day after a Pakistani Air Force airstrike in the Matre Dara village of Tirah Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which killed at least 30 civilians. The dead included women and children according to local officials and eyewitness accounts. Videos circulating on social media show graphic scenes of devastation, including rubble-strewn streets, burned vehicles, and bodies being recovered from collapsed buildings.
What Kshitij Tyagi Said
“A delegation that epitomises the antithesis of this approach continues to abuse this forum with baseless and provocative statements against India,” Tyagi said. “Instead of coveting our territory, they would do well to vacate the Indian territory under their illegal occupation and focus on rescuing an economy on life support, a polity muzzled by military dominance, and a human rights record stained by persecution — perhaps once they find time away from exporting terrorism, harbouring UN-proscribed terrorists, and bombing their own people.”
