Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi tore into Pakistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday, accusing Islamabad of “bombing their own people” while using the platform to launch attacks on New Delhi. He was speaking during Agenda Item 4 at the UN Human Rights Council session. The diplomat said that Pakistan’s comments about India were baseless and meant to provoke. Khsitij’s swipe at Pakistan came a day after a Pakistani Air Force airstrike in the Matre Dara village of Tirah Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which killed at least 30 civilians. The dead included women and children according to local officials and eyewitness accounts. Videos circulating on social media show graphic scenes of devastation, including rubble-strewn streets, burned vehicles, and bodies being recovered from collapsed buildings.

What Kshitij Tyagi Said

“A delegation that epitomises the antithesis of this approach continues to abuse this forum with baseless and provocative statements against India,” Tyagi said. “Instead of coveting our territory, they would do well to vacate the Indian territory under their illegal occupation and focus on rescuing an economy on life support, a polity muzzled by military dominance, and a human rights record stained by persecution — perhaps once they find time away from exporting terrorism, harbouring UN-proscribed terrorists, and bombing their own people.”

Who is Kshitij Tyagi?

According to the information available on his official LinkedIN profile, Kshitij Tyagi holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MTech in thermal energy and environment engineering, from IIT Kharagpur. Tyagi started his career as a business analyst with real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle. he worked there from 2007 to 2010. In April 2010, he started working as a scientist at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. He worked there for more than two years. In 2012, he passed the Indian civil services exam. After that, he began his career as a diplomat.

After completing his training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy and the Foreign Service Institute in Delhi, Kshitij Tyagi began his diplomatic career.

Reports say that in June 2014, Kshitij Tyagi began his diplomatic journey as Third Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Lisbon. After about a year and a half, he moved to Brazil in December 2015 to serve as Second Secretary. In 2018, he was promoted to First Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Egypt. In January 2024, Tyagi joined India’s Permanent Mission to the UN as First Secretary and, within a year, was elevated to the rank of Counsellor by January 2025.
