In a tragic incident, Isak Andic, the 71-year-old billionaire founder of Spanish fast-fashion company MANGO died on Saturday after falling down a 150-metre ravine. He was exploring the deep caves of the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona when the shocking incident took place.
According to the El Pais newspaper, Andic was with his family members including his son when he fell to his death. The incident triggered a large emergency response, with police and a specialized mountain unit dispatched to the scene.
Who Is Isak Andic?
Born in 1953, Isak Andic, originally from Istanbul, Turkey, is the owner of Mango. He founded the high-street fashion chain with the help of his brother Nahman Andic in Barcelone (1984). The chain has about 3000 outlets in 120 countries. Andic’s net worth stands at $4.5bn (£3.6bn), according to reports.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez confirmed Andic’s death at the Salnitre de Collbató caves. In a social media post, Pedro wrote, “My condolences to the family of Isak Andic, founder of Mango, on his tragic death in an accident in the Salnitre de Collbató caves. All my love and recognition for your great work and business vision, which has turned this Spanish firm into a world leader in fashion.”

In the wake of Andic’s tragic passing, the official X handle of MANGO stated, “His departure leaves a huge void but all of us are, in some way, his legacy and the testimony of his achievements. It is up to us, and this is the best tribute we can make to Isak and which we will fulfill, to ensure that Mango continues to be the project that Isak aspired to and of which he would feel proud.”
