Inderjit Singh Gosal, a Khalistani terrorist who is a close aide to Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has been arrested in Canada, according to NDTV Gosal was arrested in Ottawa, facing several charges related to possession of firearms.
This arrest occurred shortly after the meeting of the National Security Advisors (NSAs) of India and Canada. Four days prior, Indian NSA Ajit Doval and Canadian NSA Nathalie Drouin held extensive discussions in New Delhi. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two sides have agreed to explore a collaborative approach to further enhance bilateral relations, with a particular emphasis on cooperation on terrorism and transnational crime.
Who is Inderjit Singh Gosal?
Gosal is 36 years of age and is arguably known as Pannun’s second man and has also served as Pannun’s bodyguard. It is believed that Gosal emerged as a leading organiser for SFJ, in Canada, after the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which occurred in June 2023.
Last November, he was arrested relating to a violent incident at a Hindu temple in the GTA and he was charged with assaulting Hindu-Canadian worshippers. Peel Regional Police PRP released him on conditions, the report said. PRP said, “On November 8, 2024, Inderjit gosal was arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon. He was released on conditions and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date.”
Police in Canada said Gosal was among the 13 Canadians who were victims in violent crimes against pro-Khalistan individuals. The murder of Nijjar threatened diplomatic relations between India and Canada, which were inflamed by the incident at a Hindu temple, and subsequent protests.
The police in Canada had allegedly notified Gosal of a heightened threat to his life in August 2022. Pannun confirmed that Ontario police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had filed a “duty to warn” notice to Gosal.
According to a statement from Pannun, Gosal had stated, “I have been advised by Canadian officials of threats to my life.” However, he reaffirmed his commitment to follow the Khalistani session plan for Punjab, reported by Reuters.
