A Canadian Cop has been suspended after he was identified in videos of a protest at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton, on Sunday. The cop has been identified as a Peel Regional Police officer Harinder Sohi, an 18-year veteran of the force. He is being spotted in the videos participating with the group who launched attack on devotees at the Hindu Sabha Temple. Harinder Sohi is seen holding a Khalistan flag in the video with others chanting anti-India slogans. Following the suspension, Sergeant Sohi reportedly received death threats on social media which prompted the Peel Regional Police Association to offer “assistance and protection.” Sohi at present does not face any allegations of wrongdoing.
What Did The Police Say About Sohi?
CBC News quoted Richard Chin, Peel Police spokesperson who said that they are aware of the video circulating on social media showing one of their off-duty officers participating in a protest. He said, “We are aware of a video circulating on social media which shows an off-duty Peel police officer involved in a demonstration. This officer has since been suspended in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act.” The Peel Police spokesperson further added that they have launched investigation and can’t provide information till the investigation is complete.
“We are investigating the circumstances in totality depicted in the video and are unable to provide further information until such time that this investigation is complete,” added Chin.
Peel Regional Police On Action
Meanwhile, Peel Regional Police shared post on X and said that they are taking measures to ensure ‘peaceful and lawful’ planned protests in the city. The Police wrote, “Officers will be deployed to ensure peace & lawfulness at planned demonstrations. Violence & other criminal acts has no place in our community.” Also, the Peel Regional Police on Monday said that they made several arrests in connection to the protests in Brampton and Mississauga, Ontario. Four people were arrested, including 43-year-old Dilpreet Singh Bouns, 23-year-old Vikas, and 31-year-old Amritpal Singh.

The Indian High Commission in Canada condemned the “violent disruption” by ‘anti-India’ elements outside a consular camp. The high commission also said that any further events will be organised “contingent on security arrangements” made by the local authorities.
PM Modi Condemns The Attack
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack on Monday and asked the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law. PM wrote on X, “I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada. Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.”
