The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has released thousands of pages of records linked to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The documents mention many high-profile figures, including Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and former Prince Andrew. One name, however, appears more frequently than most: Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s top accomplice. But who is she, and where is she now?
Who Is Ghislaine Maxwell?
Ghislaine Maxwell, daughter of British publishing magnate Robert Maxwell, is a former socialite and Epstein’s closest associate. She studied at private schools in Oxford and Somerset, then earned a degree in modern history and languages from Balliol College, University of Oxford, in 1985.
In 1991, Maxwell moved to New York City to represent her father at the New York Daily News and quickly became a well-known socialite. She met Jeffrey Epstein in the early 1990s, and the two were romantically linked for a period.
Legal trouble and conviction
From 2015, Maxwell faced lawsuits accusing her of sex trafficking underage girls through deceit and false promises. Nearly a year after Epstein’s alleged suicide in 2019, she was arrested at her home in New Hampshire in mid-2020.
In late 2021, she was convicted on five charges related to sex trafficking of minors and sentenced in 2022 to 20 years in prison.
16 Epstein Files Vanish from Justice Department Website
At least 16 files related to Jeffrey Epstein disappeared from the U.S. Department of Justice’s public webpage less than a day after being posted, without any explanation or notice to the public.
The missing files, which were accessible on Friday but gone by Saturday, included images of paintings depicting nude women and one showing a collection of photographs displayed along a credenza and inside drawers. Among these photos was an image featuring Donald Trump, Melania Trump, Epstein, and Ghislaine Maxwell.
The Justice Department has not provided a reason for the removal or indicated whether the files were taken down intentionally.
