Pakistani fashion designer and actor Deepak Perwani is currently making headlines for his statement about India. His remark has triggered online discussions about the quality of life in Pakistan. In an interview, Perwani stated that life in India is better than in Pakistan. To support his statement, he said, “People are happier there (India). They smile. Women can walk freely, ride bicycles, and use motorcycles. Rickshaw pullers are there, they use Uber, and even panipuri vendors use tablets. It’s far more dynamic.’ His statement came in response to a question from Aamna Haider, Editor-in-Chief of ‘Something Haute.’ She had asked Perwani, ‘How has life changed over the years in Karachi?’
Who Is Deepak Perwani?
Deepak Perwani is a Hindu fashion designer in Pakistan. He was born in 1974 into a Sindhi Hindu family in Pakistan. He started his career at the young age of 20 in 1994 with a menswear line. He introduced his own fashion label, Deepak Perwani (DP), in 1996 as a bridal and formal wear couture house.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with international brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Benson & Hedges, and Hugo Boss. He also holds a Guinness World Record for designing the largest kurta in the world.
He has several accolades in his name, which include a record six Lux Style Awards, two MTV Style Guru Awards, best International Designer Award at Miami Fashion Week. The Bulgarian Fashion Awards named Perwani the sixth-best fashion designer in the world in 2014. He has been a cultural ambassador to China and Malaysia.
Besides, fashion designing, Perwani has been a part of showbiz also. He has acted in several Pakistani TV shows like Mere Paas Paas (Hum TV) and Kadoorat (2013 on Hum TV).
As per reports, Perwani is considered one of the richest Hindus in Pakistan. According to a report published in 2022, his annual net worth is around Rs 71 crore.
