Syrian rebels made an announcement on Sunday that they have seized control of Damascus after ending President Bashar al-Assad’s rule. As per reports by Reuters, Bashar al-Assad who had ruled the nation for 24 years, fled to the undisclosed place via plane.
The operation was led by leader of Hayat Tahrir al-sham, Abu Mohammed al-Julani. This group previously had ties with Al-Qaeda.
In 2018, US labelled Hayat Tahrir al-Sham as the the foreign terrorist organization and announced a bounty of 10 million dollar on leader of HTS, Abu Mohammed al-Julani.
Who Is Abu Mohammed Al-Julani?
Abu Mohammed al-Julani was born in 1982in Saudi Arabia. He had spent his initial seven years of life in Riyadh. In Riyadh his father used to work as a petroleum engineer. Abu Mohammed al-Julani made a return to Syria, as his family decided to get settle near Damascus.
Abu Mohammed al-Julani has joined Al-Qaeda in 2003, as per media reports. This the time when US invaded Middle East against terrorism.
When he was working in the terrorist group he founded Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). While working at Al-Qaeda he collaborated with Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi. Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi was the leader of ISIS (Islamic State In Iraq).
In 2013, Julani made an announcement that his group would sever ties with Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi. He also fought a war against the ISIS (Islamic State In Iraq). This happened after the group made an attempt to take over the Nusra Front in 2013.
Later Baghdadi was killed by the US forces in the military operation conducted in Syria in 2022.
