White House warns of mass layoffs as govt shutdown deepens, Trump calls cuts opportunity to ‘Make America Great Again’

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russell Vought to discuss which agencies might face reductions.

Amid the ongoing US government shutdown, the White House on Friday warned that thousands of federal workers could lose their jobs if the shutdown drags on. This warning has now added to mounting political tensions in Washington. The federal government entered a partial shutdown after lawmakers failed to meet the midnight funding deadline on Wednesday, September 1. While essential services remain operational, numerous agencies are now without a budget, leading to widespread disruptions as congressional negotiations remain stalled.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt while addressing the reporters outside the White House, stated that administration officials were already preparing for possible layoffs. “It’s likely going to be in the thousands,” Leavitt said, noting that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and other officials were actively discussing which departments could be affected, as reported by Fox News.

She accused Democrats of refusing to cooperate on a funding deal and blamed them for the shutdown. “These conversations would not be happening if Democrats had voted to keep the government open,” she said. Leavitt further alleged that Democrats were “playing politics” with the crisis, pointing to disagreements over health care benefits for undocumented immigrants as a sticking point. She told the reporter, “Let me ask you, do you think illegal aliens should get medicare benefits?

“I have a meeting today with Russ Vought, he of PROJECT 2025 Fame, to determine which of the many Democrat Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent. I can’t believe the Radical Left Democrats gave me this unprecedented opportunity. They are not stupid people, so maybe this is their way of wanting to, quietly and quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!: posted Trump on Truth social.
