Amid the rumours that former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan died in jail, his three sisters have claimed that they were brutally assaulted by the police for merely demanding to meet the jailed leader. As the internet seeks to find an answer to where is Imran khan, his sisters — Noreen Khan, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan — alleged that the police assaulted them when they tried to meet him in jail where he has been imprisoned since 2023. The sisters have said that they were beaten along with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters who had gathered outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail this week, demanding that authorities allow them to meet Imran Khan.
Khan has been lodged in Adiala Jail since 2023, and his sisters have alleged that they have not been allowed to meet their brother for more than three weeks.
According to PTI, Imran’s supporters and his sisters were sitting outside the jail when the police personnel “pounced on them” and “brutally assaulted them.” Their alleged crime, PTI said, was simply asking to meet their brother within the confines of the jail. The party has also called for a probe into the matter, stating that Khan’s supporters were assaulted outside Adiala Jail.
What his sisters said
In a letter to Punjab Police Chief Usman Anwar, Khan’s sisters said the violence was “brutal and orchestrated, carried out by policemen without provocation.” They further highlighted that other members of the protest were dragged and sustained visible injuries.
The police conduct, they said, was part of a broader and troubling pattern of indiscriminate force used against peacefully protesting citizens over the past three years, reflecting a sense of impunity. The Khan sisters demanded that the IGP of Punjab immediately initiate proceedings against all police personnel involved in the assault.
Where is Imran Khan
Khan, the chief of PTI, has been in jail since August 2023 in connection with multiple cases. The government has reportedly placed an undeclared ban on meetings for over a month, even as fake reports of his death continue to circulate online. PTI has said that Khan is in complete isolation and solitary confinement.
In the past, even Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was not allowed to meet Khan. Afridi had made seven consecutive attempts to meet him in jail, but each time he was denied by the authorities.
