The 2020 panic returns in 2025 – Where is the haunted Annabelle doll, and what exactly is going on with her?
A few days ago, people went frenzy due to fear and an unusual rumour that the Annabelle doll had gone missing- yes, the same Annabelle doll that you all must have seen in the movies, which is currently locked away in a Connecticut museum. Twitter and Instagram have been flooded with panic and conspiracy theories about Annabelle, but what really happened- WHERE IS ANNABELLE?
Origin of the Latest Rumour
This was not the first time Annabelle’s “missing rumours” had gone viral. A similar case occurred in August 2020, when a wrongly translated Chinese interview and misleading tweets sparked global confusion about the doll’s whereabouts.
In May 2025, the fear has returned. A few unverified and random posts claimed that paranormal objects were being moved due to renovation work at the Warren Occult Museum, leading some people to falsely believe that Annabelle was no longer in her place. Some even said that it’s a “spiritual unrest” and increased supernatural moments that proved Annabelle had escaped.
So, Is Annabelle Really Missing?
No, she is not.
NESPR lead investigator Dan Rivera debunked theories that the doll had gone missing in a TikTok video posted Saturday.
“I’m here at the museum right now, and I just wanna show you guys that Annabelle is in the Warrens’ Occult Museum,” Rivera said. “Let’s go inside and let’s check.”, he assured fans. “Annabelle is not missing; she’s not in Chicago”
An additional notice was posted on NESPR’s Facebook account that read: “It’s a Rumor… Annabelle has NOT been stolen. The doll is safely in place at the Warren Occult Museum.”
The Real Story of Annabelle
The real Annabelle is not the porcelain-faced ghost-looking doll you saw in The Annabelle movies. But, the original doll is a large, harmless looking Raggedy Ann cloth doll. The horror began in the 1970s, when Donna who was a nursing student received the doll as a gift from her mother.
After which, Donna and her roommate began to notice weird incidents: the doll would change positions, move from one room to another, or come up with handwritten notes like “Help Me”. They also talked about incidents of significant aggression, such as scratches on a friend by unseen forces. Their Fear of safety at that moment led them to a psychic, who told them that the spirit of a young girl named Annabelle Higgins was living in the doll. The story gained momentum when famous paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren took over the case.
Where Is Annabelle Now?
At the moment, Annabelle is at the Warren Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, though the museum remains temporarily closed due to zoning issues. Though Tony Spera, the son-in-law of Warren, continues to maintain and protect the collection, Annabelle is kept in a blessed, sealed glass case that reads:
“WARNING: POSITIVELY DO NOT OPEN.”
She is blessed by priests every day, and spiritual protection is made sure to prevent any harm.
Why Do These Rumours Keep Coming Back?
Annabelle is not just a doll anymore, she is one of people’s deepest fears and the internet’s obsession with all these ghostly stories. The combination of True stories from the Warrens, Hollywood exaggeration and the viral nature of social media creates the perfect scenario for these rumours to come back again and again. Whether anyone believes in her powers or not the fear she evokes is very real.
