United States President Donald Trump: recently spoke about the urgent need to increase the production capacity of indigenous semiconductor-making industries. In his new statement, he took a sardonic jibe at the American chip-making industry. Beyond that, he supported the presence of H-1B visa immigrants and said that Americans didn’t know how to produce microchips.
These comments come at a time when America is trying to push its semiconductor production to upgrade its yields. Trump detailed that the U.S. workforce lacks the skills needed for semiconductor manufacturing—an important industry for the future of the nation. Trump has claimed that America will return in a big way in this sector.
How Taiwan Controls the Chip-Making Industry
Trump pointed out how America lacks chip production capacity, and therefore they would have to train their citizens for the production of new chips. In his quintessential manner, he said that America has lost its chip-making prowess to the hands of the Taiwanese market.
American Chip Market to Regain Its Growth Pattern Yet Again
Donald Trump stressed the idea that the American chip market will once again gain the momentum it has lost over the years. He has projected plans for increased domestic production in the coming years. He rejected the 2022 CHIPS Act, which was intended to boost U.S. manufacturing.
Regarding the CHIPS Act, Trump pointed out that the Act was a disaster. He said that most chip-manufacturing companies are coming back and that probably most of the chip manufacturing in the world will be in the U.S. soon. The statements come as criticism from his Republican colleagues intensifies.
After the recent comments, the politics regarding semiconductor chips have heated up in America. Florida Governor DeSantis said in a post on November 13 that Republicans are in the majority in Congress and they can legislate to end the H-1B visa. He further added that it is not words that matter but actions.
Trump has showcased a prudent interest in pushing chip manufacturing and has shown full confidence in the vision of improving the prospects of the industry.
