Watch: Passengers Forced To Escape On Wing After American Airlines Plane Catches Fire At Denver Airport

American Airlines Plane Catches Fire At Denver airport: Several passengers were forced to evacuate onto the wing of the aircraft after it caught fire at Denver International Airport. An American Airlines plane caused a chaotic scene after it burst into flames on Thursday evening. The fire started on the plane parked at Gate C38, with thick black smoke rising above the tarmac. Boeing 737-800, the aircraft had made an emergency landing after experiencing trouble in engine mid-air. Several videos have surfaced in which passengers can be seen standing on the wing of an aircraft as they evacuate.

What Went Wrong?

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement: “American Airlines Flight 1006, a Boeing 737-800 en route to Dallas-Fort Worth from Colorado Springs with 172 passengers and six crew aboard, diverted to Denver around 5:15 p.m. local time, after the crew reported “engine vibrations.”

They also confirmed that the crew had identified the issue mid-air, prompting the emergency landing. The FAA further stated that it would conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and whether the issue originated mid-flight or after the plane had landed.

Notably, one of its engines caught fire after landing and while taxiing to the gate. This prompted the passengers to escape by climbing out onto the wing before emergency crews arrived. Twelve passengers with minor injuries were taken to the hospital and the fire was extinguished.

American Airlines also released a statement regarding the incident at Denver Airport. They cleared that the aircraft had encountered an “engine-related issue” after touching down in Denver. According to the airline, all 172 passengers and six crew members on board safely exited the aircraft and were being transported to the terminal. The plane came to a stop at Gate C38 in Concourse C, where emergency response teams acted swiftly to put out the fire.

Videos shared on social media platforms show frightening moments. A thick smoke billowing into the air is visible. Passengers are seen hastily climbing onto the wing of the plane to escape the fire.
