Thousands of protestors across the United States took to the streets to protest against the policies and executive orders of President Donald Trump on Saturday. Demonstrations held in all 50 states included opposition to the controversial tariffs. This included additional protests that took place in neighbouring Canada and Mexico. According to reports, the coordinated rallies, particularly in Washington DC, and near the president’s Florida residence, saw a huge turnout.
Approximately 150 activist groups, united under the “Hands Off” slogan, voiced their opposition against President Trump and DOGE Head Elon Musk. The official website describes the ‘Hands Off’ protests as a “nationwide mobilization to halt the most brazen grab in modern history.” These protests comes in light of the administration’s recent actions and policies which triggered outrage and frustration among many. Organizations parts of the public outcry includes civil right grounds, veteran associations, LGBTQ+ advocates, and more.

Speaking to news Agency ANI, a protester said, “I am very inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. Today, I am here because it is our ocean and our salt. As for world commerce and world exchange, we have so much to give to each other. This greed of me first, my country first, my products first is unsustainable for the world and humanity.” Meanwhile, another protester remarked, “Our President Trump is a puppet of other interests and the tariffs are a tool to dismantle our country for other interests which are those which are manipulating…”

The move, which comes amid Trump’s recent announcement related to sweeping tariffs, has sent shockwaves and prompted rallies across the nation. On April 2, 2025, the US President imposed tariffs on countries worldwide that include Canada, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, and more. He declared the new tariffs at the ‘Make America Wealthy Again’ Event. During his address, Trump called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “great friend,” and said that the United States charges India almost nothing.
