Israel has released footage showing Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar in a tunnel beneath his home just hours before last year’s deadly attack on Israel on October 7 that triggered a war. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have released the grainy footage, which shows Yahya Sinwar moving equipment into the underground hideout and preparing for an extended stay as Hamas prepares to attack. The video shows Sinwar accompanied by his wife and children as they walk through the tunnel beneath their home in Khan Younis.
Hamas Chief Yahya Sinwar Seen In Tunnel
IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said during a televised press conference: “You can see how Sinwar and his family members escape to an underground compound just hours before the brutal massacre.” The video shows Sinwar wearing a simple T-shirt as he and his family carry supplies such as food, water, mattresses and a plasma screen.

Hagari said that the tunnel hideout was equipped with a kitchen, toilets, and showers, suggesting that Sinwar was preparing for a longer stay. The underground bunker under his home was intended to prevent him and his family from capture while the attack on Israeli civilians was being carried out.
Yahya Sinwar Dead
Sinwar was among the masterminds behind the October 7 attack that triggered the ongoing war. He had been hiding for over a year, thwarting several Israeli attempts to capture or kill him. A drone footage previously released after his death revealed Sinwar in an injured condition, throwing a stick-like object at the drone in his last moments. Israeli military officials confirmed that Sinwar was shot in the head. The IDF released a video of the tank attack on the building where he was hiding.
Hamas-Hezbollah Vow To Continue Fight Against Israel
Meanwhile, the ongoing conflict has not slowed even after Sinwar’s death. The death toll has increased as Israeli strikes continue to hit targets across Gaza. More than 100 civilians have been killed in the recent bombings. Tensions with Hezbollah in Lebanon have escalated as Hamas and Hezbollah pledge to continue their fight against Israel. The Israeli military reaffirmed its determination to crush Hamas, as evidenced by the dropping of leaflets on Saturday in the southern Gaza Strip that read: “Hamas will no longer rule Gaza.”
