Wales Train Accident: Two trains at low speed collided head on in Wales on Monday morning leaving a man dead, The Guardian reported quoting police. 15 others received injuries in the crash and were rushed to a hospital, police said. All the remaining passengers were evacuated from both the trains following the accident.
The collision took place near Llanbrynmair, located between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth, at around 7:30PM on Monday, authorities said.
Network Rail and Transport for Wales said in a joint statement that the trains involved in the accident were 6.31pm service from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and the 7.09pm service from Machynlleth to Shrewsbury.
“Sadly, we can confirm a man has died following the collision. His next of kin have been informed and his family are being supported by specialist officers,” said a Dyfed-Powys police spokesperson.

Officers arrived at the line near Llanbrynmair after reports of “a low-speed train collision involving two trains”, a British Transport Police spokesperson said.
The Welsh ambulance service, transport police, the coastguard, fire and rescue and agencies from the rail industry were present at the scene.
The “operational incident” meant lines were closed and trains may be cancelled or revised, National Rail said.

Wales’ first minister, Eluned Morgan, wrote on X: “My thoughts are with all those involved in the rail incident in Powys earlier this evening.
“I would like to thank the emergency services for their response and have asked to be kept informed of any developments throughout the night.”
