Wagner Rebellion: A civil war-like situation is building up in Russia after the Wagner Group of mercenaries declared war against the Russian Military. Seeing the worsening situation, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation and said that the Wagner Group had stabbed Russia in the back, they had done “a betrayal.”
In a television message to the nation, Putin said, ” Russia was fighting the most difficult battle for its future.” He said brother was being pitted against brother.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner mercenary group rebelled against Kremlin and vowed to topple the Russian military leadership. He accused the Russian Military of launching air strikes on Wagner persons.
According to media reports, Wagner Group fighters captured all military facilities in the city of Voronezh which is situated around 500 km (310 miles) south of Moscow.
Putin termed “armed rebellion” by the Wagner group as treason, and he said that anyone who took up arms against the Russian military would be punished.
Holding a televised emergency address, Putin said that he would do everything to protect Russia, and decisive action would be taken to handle the situation developing in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don. The town is claimed to be captured by Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorist state of emergency declared in Moscow and the surrounding areas. An anti-terrorist system has been established to prevent possible terrorist attacks in the city and Moscow region.
