Liverpool Football Club’s victory parade ended in chaos when a car ploughed into a packed crowd celebrating the win, leaving at least 50 people, including children, seriously injured. A 53-year-old white British man, believed to be the driver, was arrested at the scene on Water Street in the heart of the city. Police have ruled out any terrorism-related motive.
What Happened At The Celebration?
Thousands of fans had poured into the streets last night to celebrate the club’s victory. But the joyful scenes of cheering and togetherness quickly gave way to fear, tears, and confusion as emergency services rushed to the scene.
According to various reports, 27 people were taken to the hospital, including one child sustaining serious injuries. In addition, 20 patients were treated at the scene near Water Street. Reports suggest that four children were injured in total.
“We believe this to be an isolated incident, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it,” Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims told a press conference. “The incident is not being treated as terrorism,” she added.
A video of the incident has surfaced on social media showing a dark-color vehicle suddenly accelerating into the crowd. Shocking footage captures the horrifying moment fans were struck by the speeding car, with several people visibly thrown into the air on impact. The video then shows the car coming to a stop. Angry fans quickly surround it, shouting and trying to get close. Some of them break the back windows of the vehicle. Police officers step in and try to hold the crowd back to stop the situation from getting worse.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer commended the “remarkable bravery shown by the police and other emergency services”. “They are supporting and caring for those injured in these terrible events,” he said, adding: “the whole country stands with Liverpool”.
How did the car get into the middle of the parade?
The police did not say how the car ended up in the middle of the parade. The roads were supposed to be closed for the celebration. Tens of thousands of people had come out, even in heavy rain, to watch the parade. They were there to enjoy and celebrate Liverpool’s big win.
