A shooting incident occurred at a Catholic school in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning, during the first week of classes, according to Minnesota’s governor. Officials did not immediately say how many people were injured, but Governor Tim Walz called the incident “horrific.”
Two Children, aged 8 and 10, were killed, and 17 other people were injured when the shooter opened fire at the school before killing himself, officials said.
Earlier, a Minneapolis hospital said it was treating five children injured in the school shooting.
The shooter has been “contained” and is no longer an “active threat” to civilians, according to the Minneapolis city administration.
Governor Walz said on social media that he was briefed on the incident. He wrote on X, “I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.”
When police, the FBI, other federal agencies and ambulances arrived at the school, the person who answered the phone at the school said students were being evacuated.
Just hours after the incident, two people were killed in two more separate firing incidents in the city.
