In a related development, the Pentagon has announced plans to increase its military presence in the Middle East. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh emphasized the U.S. commitment to protecting its interests and allies, stating, ‘The Department of Defense continues to take steps to mitigate the possibility of regional escalation by Iran or its proxies.’ The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group will replace the USS Theodore Roosevelt in the region, and additional ballistic missile defense-capable ships and a new fighter squadron will be deployed.
