The US Department of Labor on Tuesday said that it has launched 'Project Firewall' to protect America's highly skilled workforce. In a post on social media platform X, the US Labor Department announced, "Highly-skilled jobs should go to AMERICANS FIRST!" It added that Project Firewall aims to end H-1B abuse and ensure employers prioritize U.S. workers in the hiring process.

The H-1B enforcement initiative will safeguard American jobs through partnerships with federal agencies, the U.S. Labor Department said. “The Trump Administration is standing by our commitment to end practices that leave Americans in the dust. As we reestablish economic dominance, we must protect our most valuable resource: the American worker. Launching Project Firewall will help us ensure no employers are abusing H-1B visas at the expense of our workforce,” U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer said last Friday.

As authorized by federal law, the Labor Department will conduct employer investigations through Project Firewall. To ensure full compliance with the H-1B program, the Secretary of Labor will certify the initiation of investigations, the department’s first-ever initiative of this kind. This action leverages existing authority granted to the Secretary if reasonable grounds are established that an H-1B employer is not in compliance.
