The US authorities said that an Indian-origin teaching assistant was arrested after she slashed her husband’s neck with a knife over household chores in North Carolina’s Mecklenburg County.
According to a report published by India Today, the woman has been identified as 44-year-old Chandra Prabha Singh. The report cited North Carolina-based news channel WBTV, which said that the arrest warrant mentioned Singh was accused of “unlawfully, wilfully, and feloniously” cutting her husband’s neck.
Later, she was released from jail but was asked to wear an electronic monitoring device and instructed not to contact her husband. Singh’s husband alleged that she attacked him for not cleaning the house.
The victim was identified as Arvind Singh, who was taken to a hospital for treatment. It is unclear how seriously Singh was injured, but he stated to the police that he was intentionally attacked by his wife.
On the contrary, Singh claimed that she was preparing breakfast and that the knife was in her hand when the incident occurred accidentally.
Singh is employed as a teaching assistant for grades K–3 at Endhaven Elementary School in the Ballantyne area.
