Four Indian-origin senior citizens, including two from Ahmedabad, had gone missing in the United States on the night of July 29. A recent update has revealed that they were found late Saturday in the West Virginia mountains, along Big Wheeling Creek Road, where their vehicle had crashed.
The police had been in pursuit of the family ever since they were last spotted at a restaurant. After several days of land and aerial search yielded no trace of the missing persons or their vehicle, investigators used the last known mobile location to zero in on where the family might be. Upon further investigation, the police discovered that the family had met with an accident and were eventually able to locate the crash site.
Helicopters failed to trace the family due to the area’s thick vegetation. It was the mobile location data that helped authorities narrow down the search and reach the victims.
Dr. Kishore Divan (89), Asha Divan (86), Shailesh Divan (87), and Gita Divan (83) were travelling from Buffalo, New York, to Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold—an ISKCON temple in Marshall County, West Virginia—when their car reportedly went off the road and crashed.
Shailesh and Gita, residents of Ahmedabad, were visiting Shailesh’s brother, Dr. Kishore, who moved to the U.S. 45 years ago. The couple was scheduled to return next weekend.
Dr. Kishore and Asha Divan, who lived in Buffalo, are survived by two sons, five grandchildren, and one great-grandson—all settled in the United States. The family has further stated that all four will be cremated in the country.
