Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and seven European leaders made a visit to the White House, after US President Donald Trump’s Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump met with Zelensky, separately, before meeting with the Ukrainian leader and European leaders.
The focus was on bringing an end to the three-and-a-half-year conflict in Ukraine, aka Russia’s ongoing war, that started with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine that February.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that if any meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin occurs, it should be done without preconditions. He warned that if preconditions are set, e.g., a ceasefire, there could be the conditions that Russia would want, which could jeopardize the success of the meeting. “That’s why I think we ought to meet without conditions,” Zelenskyy said to reporters.
