Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday urged the United States, Europe, and G20 and G7 nations to take decisive steps to protect lives and stop Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a post on X, Zelenskyy emphasised that “Putin cannot be stopped with words, pressure is needed.” This comes after his meeting with US President Donald Trump on Saturday, October 18, where the two leaders discussed about Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Zelenskyy Urges US, G7, G20 to Take Decisive Action Against Putin
Zelenskyy stated that Russia only responds to strength, and therefore, peace through strength is a viable path. He reaffirmed that Ukraine will not reward terrorists for their crimes and expressed hope that international partners will uphold the same stance. He thanked those who are actively supporting Ukraine in this ongoing effort.
“Putin cannot be stopped with words – pressure is needed. The world sees that Russia responds to strength, which means that peace through strength can work. Ukraine will never grant terrorists any bounty for their crimes, and we count on our partners to uphold this very position. Decisive steps are needed from the United States, Europe, the G20 and G7 countries. Lives must be protected. I thank everyone who is helping in this effort.” Zelenskyy wrote.
Russia Continues to Obstruct Peace Efforts, Says Zelenskyy
He further asserted that Ukraine has never sought war, instead agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, consistently searched for peaceful solutions, and repeatedly offered the world ways to stop Russian strikes by air, land, and sea. However, he said, it is Russia that continues to obstruct peace by manipulating and delaying negotiations, launching airstrikes on civilians, and intensifying attacks along the front line. Zelenskyy stressed that the war persists only because Moscow does not want it to end.
“Ukraine has never sought war. We agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, looked for opportunities for peace, and repeatedly offered the world ways to stop the strikes in the sky, on land, and at sea. But it is Russia that continually obstructs this process – manipulating, dragging out negotiations, terrorizing our people with airstrikes, and intensifying assaults along the front line. The war continues only because Moscow does not want it to end,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
