Droupadi Murmu reaches London

London: United Kingdom Foreign Secretary James Cleverly expressed gratitude for ‘very senior’ representation by Indian President Droupadi Murmu at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, news agency PTI reports.

On the sidelines of a high-level UN General Assembly session in New York, Cleverly, on Wednesday, told the news agency that “I would like to say a huge thank you for the very very senior representation that India sent to Her Majesty the Queen’s funeral. I had the opportunity to meet President Murmu and it was really noticed.”

President Murmu attended the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday morning.

Cleverly, the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom under the new administration of Prime Minister Liz Truss, also met his Indian counterpart External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar late on Wednesday evening at the sidelines of the UNGA, the report said.

The former head of state of the UK and Head of the Commonwealth of Nations passed away on 8th September at the age of 96.

World leaders who attended the funeral are: US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Italian President Sergio Mattarellaand, Irish Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
