Tyler Robinson, the suspected assassin of Trump ally and conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, has been taken into custody. The New York Post said, citing law enforcement sources, that Tyler reportedly threatened to kill himself instead of surrendering upon being confronted by his father about the murder. During a press conference, Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed that the 22-year-old shooter was the suspect in the activist’s shooting case.
How Was Charlie Kirk’s Shooter Arrested?
The three-day manhunt had grown intense as soon as the first clues emerged – a palm print, a rifle in the woods, and an impression of shoe soles.
Cox, appearing with FBI Chief Kash Patel, said at the conference, “We got him. On the evening of September 11, a family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend, who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident.”
Cox informed that the family member remembered a dinner conversation during which Tyler mentioned Kirk’s upcoming visit to Utah. He criticized him, saying, “Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate”. Meanwhile, the accused’s roommate also showed messages he had sent to him on Discord. He wrote that he had stashed a rifle in the bushes, carefully wrapped in a towel.
Patel, later, confirmed that Robinson was arrested around 10 pm local time on September 11. Kirk was fatally shot in the neck while addressing a campus event at Utah Valley University.
