Crash Caused Cracks! Two Passenger Planes Collide On Runway In Japan
A Korean Air Lines plane collided with a Cathay Pacific Airways plane on Tuesday at New Chitose Airport on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido, according to a Korean Air official.Hokkaido Airports, which manages New Chitose Airport, got a report at 5:30 p.m. local time. According to an airline official, the disaster occurred as the Korean Air plane was about to take off.

While the Korean Air plane had around 280 passengers and personnel on board, the Cathay Pacific plane had no passengers when it arrived, according to NHK. According to the fire department, there was no fire, and no one has been reported harmed thus far. More than 46 flights were canceled at the airport today alone owing to the region's wintry conditions.
Before the incident, the airport issued the following statement: "New Chitose Airport is experiencing flight delays and cancellations today due to heavy snow." Please contact your airline for further information. A spokesman for the airport was not immediately available for comment. It comes only two weeks after a tragic jet crash at Tokyo's Haneda Airport killed five people.
2nd plane crash in Japan
On January 2, a Japan Airlines plane burst into flames after colliding with a coastguard aircraft on the runway. Footage from inside the Japan Airlines Airbus-A350, which was carrying 379 people, including eight children, showed smoke pouring out beneath its wings as it landed at Tokyo's Haneda Airport at 5.45 pm local time (8.45 am GMT).
By the time the jet came to a halt, it was engulfed in flames as rescuers tried to evacuate all of the passengers. The collision killed five coastguard crew members. The pilot survived, but he was in bad condition.
