Assailants Armed with Rifles
The attackers, including a man and a woman armed with assault rifles, breached the facility. Reports indicated that some staff members might have been taken hostage, though this remains unconfirmed. Media speculation suggests that a suicide bombing could have been involved, although the exact cause and motives are still unclear.
Emergency Response and Clashes
Emergency services, including police, ambulances, and firefighters, were quickly deployed to the site. Footage from the scene showed a damaged gate and clashes in a parking area near the facility. Helicopters were seen flying overhead as security forces worked to bring the situation under control.
Importance of TUSAS in Turkey’s Defense Industry
TUSAS is a state-run enterprise critical to Turkey’s defense sector, involved in the production of both military and civilian aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and space systems. One of its major projects is the KAAN, Turkey’s first national combat aircraft. Due to its strategic importance, TUSAS has previously been targeted by various militant groups, though no organization has yet claimed responsibility for this particular attack.
