US President Donald Trump on Sunday said that he is optimistic about a Gaza peace deal and that the proposal to end the ongoing conflict is well-received. Citing everybody is ‘tired of wars’, the Republican President added that he hopes to get Israeli support soon. “We’re getting a very good response because Bibi wants to make the deal too,” Trump told Reuters in a telephone interview, using Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s nickname.
Trump and Netanyahu are scheduled to meet at the White House on Monday. The US President said that US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law who served as a Middle East envoy in his first term, held talks with Netanyahu in New York ahead of the meeting today. The meeting comes days after Trump revealed a 21-point plan to end the war in the Palestinian territory. He unveiled the strategy during discussions with Arab and Muslim leaders at the United Nations General Assembly.
In a social media post on Saturday, Trump claimed that ‘all are on board’ for something special in the Middle East. “We have a real chance for GREATNESS IN THE MIDDLE EAST. ALL ARE ON BOARD FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL, FIRST TIME EVER. WE WILL GET IT DONE!!!” Trump wrote on X.
