US President Donald Trump has given a big blow to European countries. He has decided to cut the security assistance given to European countries bordering Russia. This reduction will be done in a phased manner. Trump’s move has been taken under his ‘America First’ policy. Some analysts believe that this decision is like punishing Europe for supporting Ukraine and the stance of President Zelensky.
Donald Trump is giving priority to America’s interests in his foreign policy. Under this policy, he is cutting military aid given to foreign countries and asking European countries to bear the cost of their own security. Security assistance to countries like Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will be cut. Trump reviewed foreign aid at the beginning of his second term.
He has also signed an executive order, under which new rules are being made for the aid given to foreign countries. Under this order, it has been decided to cut aid to European countries. Trump has been saying for a long time that Europe should defend itself, although his move is being criticized in America as well. Senate Democrat Senator Jeanne Shaheen has called it a misleading decision.
President Trump is trying to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, but both sides are adamant on their terms, due to which peace talks are not happening. On the other hand, European countries are supporting Ukraine and talking about strengthening its army. In such a situation, reducing aid to countries adjacent to Russia is being considered a sign of Trump’s displeasure.
