Ten people, including nine children, were killed in a Pakistani army attack on a residential area in Afghanistan’s Khost province. The attack took place shortly after midnight and targeted the home of a local resident, renewing concerns of escalating hostilities along the border.

Losses Due to the Pakistani Attack

Zabiullah Mujahid said the attack occurred around 12:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Mughalai area of Khost’s Gurbuz district. In a post on the social media platform X, he said Pakistani invading forces bombed the home of a local citizen, Waliat Khan, son of Qazi Mir. The attack killed nine children and a woman, and destroyed their home. Mujahid added that separate airstrikes also struck Kunar and Paktika provinces that night, injuring four civilians.

Earlier, on October 9, Pakistan carried out airstrikes in Kabul, Khost, Jalalabad and Paktika, prompting retaliatory action from the Afghan Taliban. Taliban forces attacked several Pakistani military posts along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border during the nights of October 11 and 12, leading to heavy gunfire.

Betrayal by Pakistani Army?

The Taliban’s Defence Ministry claimed that their operations were over, although Pakistani officials rejected any ceasefire announcement and continued their military operations. A Taliban spokesman at the time confirmed that the tussle continued until the morning of October 12. Both countries stated that they had inflicted heavy casualties on each other and destroyed or captured several border posts.
