On Saturday, a joyful celebration turned into a scene of horror as a tragic incident took place on the streets of Vancouver. The annual Filipino festival, ‘Lapu Lapu Day Block Party,’ quickly turned to mourning when an SUV crashed into a crowd, resulting in several deaths and numerous injuries. Several people were killed after a man rammed a car into the party in Canada’s Vancouver. Vancouver police said “several other people” were injured during the incident at a street festival on Saturday evening. The driver has been taken into custody by the Police.
The incident occurred after 8:00 PM on East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, where the Filipino community had gathered to celebrate the festival. The festival honors the Philippines’ first national hero, Lapu Lapu, with festivities marking Filipino culture. As people were walking or waiting for food, an SUV sped into the crowd, causing a devastating tragedy.
Vancouver Police mentioned on their X handle that, “A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival at E. 41st Avenue and Fraser shortly after 8 p.m. tonight. The driver is in custody. We will provide more information as the investigation unfolds.”

Mayor of Vancouver, Ken Sim, wrote on his X handle, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event. We will work to provide more information as soon as we can, but at this time,e Vancouver Police have confirmed that there are a number of fatalities and multiple injuries. Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time.”

As of now, the number of deceased has not been confirmed, but the incident has left the community in shock.
