A video of the aftermath of the rampage broke over the internet, showcasing the panic the incident had caused among citizens. The clip showed several vehicles and people standing on the side of the road.
As of yet, it is unclear how many people were stabbed, but reports detail that 10 passengers had been admitted to the Hospital. Rail services on the route are likely to be affected, with delays of up to 60 minutes or revisions in timings expected, the BBC said in a report.
What Happened on the Train
A passenger who witnessed the mass stabbing aboard the London-bound train said he overheard a survivor’s cry for help during the attack, shouting: “They’ve got a knife! I’ve been stabbed!”Gavin, a passenger who saw the horror unfold, told Sky News that several people were “extremely bloodied” after the stabbing spree.
UK police arrested two suspects following the attack late Saturday. In the aftermath of the massacre, ten people were hospitalised—nine of them believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries.
Armed officers, along with multiple police cars and ambulances, swarmed the train station in the rural town of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, after the alarm was raised and the train was brought to a halt.
Gavin said that someone had pulled the emergency stop cord, forcing the train to come to a halt at Huntingdon, where armed police boarded soon after. He recalled seeing a person moving through his train carriage, shouting, “They’ve got a knife! I’ve been stabbed!”
“By the time the train stopped, they were basically on the floor,” Gavin said. “That person ended up collapsing and was taken to an ambulance almost immediately.”
Sky News and AFP reported that after the attack, a brief stampede-like situation erupted at the station. Another passenger told The Times that he saw a man with a large knife, describing scenes of panic and “blood everywhere,” with some passengers hiding in the bathrooms.
Gavin further described how police detained the attackers:
“The armed police were pointing to the suspect as we came off the train. Police were shouting, ‘Get down! Get down!’ He (a suspect) was waving quite a large knife. They detained him—I think it was a Taser that got him down in the end,” he was quoted as saying by the broadcaster.
