Early Saturday morning, residents were jolted awake by the sound and the massive shock wave of an explosion near the Cambodia–Thailand border. The Thai military orchestrated the blast, targeting a casino near the border.

F-16 fighter jets bombed the casino, reducing it to ashes. The Thai army has claimed that these casinos are no longer gambling dens. Gambling dens have become strongholds for the Cambodian army. Thailand suspects that the Cambodian army is using these casinos as weapon storage facilities. These casinos are hence being destroyed one after another.

History of Dispute between the Two Nations

While Thailand has labeled its ongoing conflict with Cambodia a “War on Scammers,” it is claimed that these casinos are run by international cyber criminals and scam centres, and these scammers receive full protection and support from the Cambodian army.

Cambodia alleges that the Thai military is targeting civilian buildings, hotels, and even schools, and carrying out attacks on them. Cambodia has described these attacks as “war crimes.” As per recent reports, around 8 lakh people from the areas around the border have been forced to leave their homes.
