Taipei: The tension between the US and China has reached its peak over the issue of Taiwan. For the past few days, China has been trying to put pressure on Taiwan by conducting military exercises around the island nation.
Meanwhile, there is news that now Taiwan has also taken counter-action against China by starting live-fire artillery drills on Tuesday. This drill will conclude on Thursday.
China is very upset with the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was on an official tour of Taiwan recently. China’s military – the PLA – announced new military exercises in the sea and airspace around Taiwan on Monday.
The Eastern Theater Command of the PLA said it would conduct joint exercises focusing on anti-submarine and maritime attack operations. China has not disclosed how long this military operation will last. In such a situation, by starting an artillery drill, Taiwan has also given a clear message to China that it is ready to face any situation.
China had earlier conducted massive military maneuvers around the island by warships, fighter jets and drones beyond firing 11 short-range ballistic missiles during the first four days of military exercises. Shortly before the end of this military exercise, Chinese warships conducted maneuvers close to the unofficial midline of the Taiwan Strait.
During this, Japan had alleged that a missile also fell in its territory. At the same time, Taiwan made it clear that it is not going to be afraid.
The US has also made its intentions clear regarding Taiwan. America has said that if China attacks Taiwan, it will be answered. The US military stands with Taiwan.
