At least 10 people were killed after shooting erupted at Bondi Beach during Jewish event in Australia’s Sydney on Sunday. The incident took place when a large crowd was present on the beach. The New South Wales police rushed to the spot. Police have urged people to stay away from the beach.

In an update, the police said, ” A police operation is ongoing after a public place shooting by two men at Bondi Beach earlier today. Ten people have been confirmed dead, including a man believed to be one of the shooters. The second alleged shooter is in a critical condition. At this time, a further 11 people are reported to be injured, two of which are police officers.”

‘Scenes in Bondi are shocking and distressing’
Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a released statement, “The scenes in Bondi are shocking and distressing. Police and emergency responders are on the ground working to save lives. My thoughts are with every person affected.”
He further stated, “I have just spoken to the AFP Commissioner and with the NSW Premiere. We are working with the NSW Police and will provide further updates as more information is confirmed. I urge people in the vicinity to follow information from the NSW Police.”

Two individuals have been taken into custody, the NSW Police have confirmed. According to AFP, the injured received initial medical treatment at the beach, and later shifted to the hospital. It is reportedly said nearly 11 people were injured in the incident.
Israeli President expresses grief
Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed grief over the incident and wrote on X, “Our hearts go out to our Jewish sisters and brothers in Sydney who have been attacked by vile terrorists as they went to light the first candle of Chanukah. I just spoke to David Ossip, the President of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, who was speaking at the event as the shooting attack began. I conveyed on behalf of the entire nation of Israel our condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the wounded. Time and again we called on the Australian government to take action and fight against the enormous wave of antisemitism that is plaguing Australian society.Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jewish community of Sydney and the entire Australian Jewish community at this horrific time.”
