An air ambulance whisked a British soldier to hospital after he was seriously stabbed near an army barracks. It happened at about 6 pm on Tuesday in Chatham, Kent, which is less than 200 meters away from Brompton Barracks. A witness said that the attacker was wearing a ski mask and a Nasa bomber jacket when he leaped off a moped and ran toward the uniformed soldier.
According to an onlooker, the assailant, brandishing two kitchen knives, chased down the serviceman who had managed to get away, and attacked him again.
It is claimed moments later the knifeman held up one of the bloodied weapons and licked it in front of terrified locals who rushed out of their homes to help the serviceman.

The Post understands that the injured officer walked alone from the barracks and was in uniform in the attack in broad daylight. The motive is unknown, but police say the shooting of a 24-year-old man has been arrested as a suspect.
An Army spokesperson expressed regret in confirming that a soldier had sustained serious injuries in an assault in Chatham, Kent. The spokesperson sympathized with the soldier and their family, requesting that their privacy be respected during this challenging time. The Army will fully cooperate with Kent Police to establish the circumstances and support the police inquiry. Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Kent Police.
Kent Police Respond to Gillingham Assault
Kent Police were in attendance to a call with regard to serious assault at Sally Port Gardens, Gillingham, around 5:55 pm on Tuesday. A victim with injuries consistent with that of stab wounds was airlifted to a hospital where he is being treated.
Kent Police arrested a 24-year-old man at around 6:20 pm on suspicion of attempted murder. The incident took place near Brompton Barracks, the headquarters of the British Army’s 1 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment.
Present at the scene is a cordon, and police will further be deployed in the area while an investigation into what transpired unfolds.
