United States President Donald Trump on Monday reiterated that he had stopped seven wars that were raging. However, this time he added that the conflict between India and Pakistan, which he claims to have resolved was close to turning nuclear and just weeks away from escalation.
“I stopped 7 wars that were raging… including India and Pakistan that was probably two weeks away from being a nuclear war. They were shooting down airplanes all over the place. I am very proud of that,” Trump said.
What Did Trump Say?
While Trump can claim to have brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the US has also shifted its stance on the number of planes downed during the conflict. Last month, Trump had stated that five jets were down. However, in his latest statement, the US President has revised the numbers to seven. Notably, this time also, Trump refrained from specifying which country shot down how many jets.
“The war with India and Pakistan was the next level that was going to be a nuclear war… They already shot down 7 jets – that was raging. I said, ‘You want to trade? We are not doing any trade or anything with you if you keep fighting, you’ve got 24 hours to settle it’. They said, ‘Well, there’s no more war going on. ‘I used that on numerous occasions. I used trade and whatever I had to use,” Trump said.
He further stated that he used tariffs and trade measures to stop these wars, claiming that several conflicts were avoided during his presidency.
“Of the 7 wars I stopped, 4 were because I had tariffs and trade, and I was able to say, ‘If you go fight and want to kill everybody, that is okay, but I am going to charge you each a 100% tariff when you trade with us.’ They all gave up…” Trump added.

Trump’s remark came as US Vice President JD Vance briefed the press to defend the imposition of secondary sanctions and tariffs on India. Vance has called them part of Washington’s strategy to apply “aggressive economic leverage” against Russia over the war in Ukraine.
