The majority of people in the parliament of South Korea have voted to impeach he acting president Han Duck Soo.
On Friday,192 lawmakers out of 300 voted to impeach the acting president Han. On the other hand the ruling party politicians boycotted the vote.
As Quoted by Times Of India, Speaker Woo Won-Shik said that, “I announce that Prime Minister Han Duck-soo’s impeachment motion has passed. Out of the 192 lawmakers who voted, 192 voted to impeach.”
Han has been the acting President of South Korea after Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached on December 14. He was impeached after he imposed the martial law on December 3, 2024. The declaration of Martial Law for a short time by Yoon shocked the entire South Korea. Due to this, the presidential power of Yoon Suk Yeol got suspended.
Following the impeachment of Han, Finance Minister Choi Sang-Mok is to be the acting president as per the law in South Korea. The opposition party ‘Democratic Party’ moved to impeach Han. This happened after Han failed to place three justices in the Constitutional Court, as per media reports.
Han stated that he would get aside to avoid any chaos. He also stated that he will be waiting for the Constitutional Court’s judgement, as per media reports.
