In an unusual turn of events in Shanghai, an 88-year-old man has transferred properties worth approximately 4 crore rupees, including a high-value flat, to a fruit vendor named Liu. Strikingly, there is no blood relation or any known connection between the elderly man and Liu. When the news reached the elderly man’s relatives, it left them astounded to the extent that it reportedly impacted the elderly man’s mental health. Later, it was revealed that the elderly man, named Ma, had chosen to name all his properties after Liu, the fruit vendor.
The incident, reported by the South China Morning Post, states that Ma bestowed assets exceeding 3.84 crore rupees, including a valuable flat, to Liu. The transfer was documented through a formal agreement, with papers duly signed.
Tragically, Ma passed away in December 2021. Subsequently, his three sisters contested Liu’s ownership of the properties, asserting their right to a share in their late brother’s estate. The sisters claimed that Ma’s mental condition was not sound at the time of the property transfer. In response, Liu, allegedly taking advantage of the situation, obtained signatures on documents during a time of family distress.
The question arises: Why did Ma choose to name the properties after a fruit vendor? According to the report, Ma entrusted all his properties to Liu because of the exceptional care the fruit vendor provided. Reportedly, Liu not only looked after Ma but also went as far as residing with Ma’s wife and children to ensure their well-being. The unfolding story raises questions about family dynamics, caregiving, and the complexities.
